The Jessamine County Health Department is accepting applications for contractual employment of a Part-Time Public Health Dental Hygienist to lead our school dental health program.
General Duties include:
Assure that policies and procedures adhere to legal and regulatory statutes and ethical standards of dental hygiene practice. Along with school nurses and other school personnel, establish and maintain a dental program that emphasizes oral assessment, preventive services and a referral system that results in care being completed for the child with dental needs beyond the scope of a school-based public health dental hygiene program. Serve on advisory committees/consultation for individual health care plans, as appropriate. Make appropriate referrals based on dental assessment of the oral cavity and its development. Coordinate and assist with mandated oral health screenings, and referrals according to state and school policies. Promote oral health education and anticipatory guidance. Serve as a liaison between the LHD, school, family, local healthcare providers and community. Provide emergency care in the event of dental injury. Data collection for Department of Education mandated reports related to health services. Provide staff educational in-services, as requested by school administration. Obtain parental consent for preventive oral health services. Serve as a resource for students and staff related to oral disease and chronic oral conditions in students. Serve in a leadership role for health, policies and programs, and promote a healthy school environment. Supervise a dental assistant and ensure coordination, maintenance and inventory of all equipment and supplies necessary to fulfill program requirements. Maintenance of medical records and assuring HIPAA compliance. Assuring compliance with applicable state law including KRS 313.040 and 201 KAR 8:562 and any other laws providing governance for Dental Hygienist. Adhere to Health Department policies in regard to confidentiality. Biweekly the employee will submit an electronic timesheet and travel sheet to manager upon designated time. Must have an up-to-date driver’s license, reliable transportation and vehicle insurance while employed with Health Department. Follow Health Department Master Policy Guide. Other duties as may be assigned by the Public Health Director.
This employment is designated as Part-time employment consistent with the Jessamine County School District schedule for a minimum of 1,300 hours and a 37.5 hour work week.
Special Requirements: (Age, Licensure, Regulation, Etc.) Must have a dental hygienist license through the KY Board of Dentistry. Must have current driver’s license, reliable transportation, and current vehicle insurance. Public Health Dental Hygienist Certification through the Department for Public Health must be obtained after employment.
Starting Salary: $22/hr. - May be adjusted at agency’s discretion based upon additional education, experience, licensure, certifications, etc. Agency Benefits provided.
